Jacky Cheung Concert

Went to Jacky Cheung's concert last week with my sis and the man is one of the greatest singers and performer ever walked this planet. The whole concert lasted for about 4 hours without interval and that man sang till his voice turned hoarse (did i get the spelling correct?). Well it was really a nice concert and it made my every single cent worth. There is this song that really caught my attention. The name of the song is 讲你知, he wrote it for his wife and it's in cantonese. Too bad I do not know how to post music in the blog (I suck at computer stuff la, till now I think i spoilt ard 10 computers already). However, I would like to share the lyrics with everybody.

ooh
Anyway, the tune of the song is rather normal but I like the lyrics. heheh. Why? Some of my friends already know the reason le haha.
Alright, that's it for now and now I have to go back to reading my papers. Sigh... Really working to see if I can get an A for my final project. If so it will be my First in my uni life, and I've got a feeling I wont get it.

Violins and Music

There's nothing much happening these days except those routine lab work, design and experiment. YEA!! It's that boring and please do not remind me again....

Was having lunch with my parents at IMM the other day and bumped into my violin teacher. Apparently, he didn't really recognise me as he just walked past me. hmmm.. Maybe I was too naughty then and didn't practise much so he would rather forget me.... well....

Back to the main point, after the 'bumping' incident I started to think about my past when I was still practising violin.. What if I practised hard enough.. and what if I had the patience to emphasis on the fundamentals like intonation... I could have been a maestro myself... And now I have taken a break too long from music - 6 years to be exact. I tried picking up the violin the other day to try and play some of the pieces that I can recall from my 'harddisk' of repertoire and yea i can remember the notes and some of the tunes. BUT my fingers just dont want to follow my command, i.e. it's stiff as if i have been in the freezer for 6 yrs.

I have planned to go back to learn the violin during my attachments and yea this time will be on my own money so that i can feel the pinch of paying for the expenses for the course. Moreover, I have wasted enough money over the years and didn't get any results that I can say I am proud of. This time I will start everything from the basics. From tuning, Intonation, Rhythm and so on.. and my dream is to play any of Paganini's pieces. (esp those with left-hand pizzicato)

To start off, I will have to save up and buy a new bow. The current bow I am using is too light for my liking.. hmm may go down to the violin shop at Paya Lebar in a few weeks time to get that.. Anybody wants to go with me? Just drop me a msg hehe.. We'll go see how to choose a bow and take a look at some of the exquisite violins they have..

P/s: I tried on a 90 year-old violin from Czech a few years ago. Still very impressed with the sound it produced and the price is even more impressive -$6k and that's the price for just an average violin mind you...
